Q&A: What is the best kind of poker table for home for 10 players?

Question by ellabella0110: What is the best kind of poker table for home for 10 players?
Small party at house. I already have a large dining room table and can cover with green felt. The guys are playing regular poker. Any ideas?

Best answer:

Answer by ZCT
Actually round tables are probably best. If you have an oval poker table like you see on TV it can be difficult to use unless you have a person who is willing to deal the whole time. Oval tables are tricky to use if you rotate the deal, because at some point someone on the very end is trying to deal the cards to the opposite end of the table.

You might want to look on eBay. There was some guy making felt covers with an elasticated underside that cling to regular tables to make a poker table. Or consider a table topper.

Q&A: How would you rate the poker play during the day on weekdays in casinos?

Question by mnvikes: How would you rate the poker play during the day on weekdays in casinos?
Its raining and im bored, and im in the mood for some poker. ive never played during a weekday, what type of players typically play from about 12-5 on weekdays? good/bad? im thinking maybe a lot of retired people?
or is it all weird addicts with no jobs?

Best answer:

Answer by Mr. Luva Luva
I would agree with your analysis. You get a lot of retired folks, a much older crowd on average, but you also get the guys who play poker for a living. I have seen them both frequent poker rooms during the week.
I personally love to go on the weekends and have much more success. I usually get the inexperienced college kid or people who are there to drink while gamble. The more they drink, the more their chips find a way into my stack.
But you can do well during the week as well. It takes a little more patience and skill. Good luck!

Q&A: How can I become a pro poker player?

Question by 8: How can I become a pro poker player?
I randomly found the profile of a pro poker player. He’s 30 and he goes around the world and plays poker for a living. That sounds like a nice job. He plays for pokerstars. It sounds like he’s made 800k so far. How could I do that?

Answer by f s
Firstly you have to learn the game, I don’t mean just the rules but the strategy, mathematics and psychology that stand behind the cards, poker is a skill game just if you can play a large number of tournaments, to do this you’ll also need money enough to play 50-100 games, with online poker the price for a tournaments starts from 0.50$ but playing this kind of games won’t give you enough to live so you’ll have to use your income to increase the bankroll later yuo’ll be able to partecipate higher stakes games.

What are the tax implications of winning online poker?

Question by DBADiver: What are the tax implications of winning online poker?
If I were to win say, $ 100,000 playing online poker, I know the government wants to tax me on that. What happens if I don’t withdraw the money from my account? Do I pay taxes on it? What if I withraw just a little bit at a time over several years, do I have to report it?
I am in the U.S (Virginia), by the way.

Best answer:

Answer by ami
This is income from gambling. You must report it and you will be taxed accordingly. It doesn’t matter how you withdraw it. You will receive a W2-G which will how your winnings and that must be put on your Form 1040. If you had any LOSSES, you can deduct that, but only up to the amount of your winnings. So if you lost $ 1000 you can deduct $ 1000. But if you lost $ 105,000 you can only deduct $ 100,000.

Why is poker card games legal gambling but not slot machines in California?

Question by Think about it: Why is poker card games legal gambling but not slot machines in California?
You can lose a quarter on a game of slot machine but usually you lose a lot more on a hand of poker, so why is one legal and the other not in California? (aside from on Indian reservations).
Isn’t playing the Lottery 100% chance? That’s legal too.

Best answer:

Answer by ElDuderino
one is a game of skill (poker does require luck, but a good player can win with a crap hand) and one is all luck. I guess California legislated out games of chance.

You’d be surprised how quickly quarters add up to a hell of a lot of money when you are mindlessly feeding them into a machine, and you are mindlessly feeding booze into your mouth.
