    Amazing service

There's no need to review an Ipod Nano - it's staggering what is packed into such a small, light package.

What was amazing was the service from Amazon. The first ipod that arrived had a battery fault. I filled the returns form and posted the ipod off. The very next morning the replacement arrived. When the return reached them a day later they quickly acknowledged the fault and refunded the full postage.

    That's good service.

Very disappointed with this Ipod, as it's european the volume is limited. Think they should inform that you are buying a capped Ipod.

    Rediscovering my love for music

    Reviewer: Lee Goodman,
I'd been thinking about buying myself an iPod for sometime, but just couldn't bring myself to commit. Having purchased and set one up for a friend recently, I was sufficiently impressed to take the plunge and get one for myself. I was initially going to buy the 8GB model whilst in town one day, but when I saw Amazon were selling the 16GB for a few pounds more than the high street retailers were selling the 8GB for, I thought "What the hell!"

Item came quickly (3 days, if I remember rightly) and was well packaged. I had also ordered a 5G Crystal Clear Case Hard Cover from iDelta, also through Amazon, which arrived the day before.

The setup process was fairly easy - download iTunes, connect iPod and then start transferring my CDs onto it. Having used an iPod before (although not actually having owned one until now) I found getting started reasonably straightforward. For a lot of people who may not be tech-savvy, or unfamiliar with the setup process, I can understand how using an iPod for the first time may seem a bit daunting, as the instructions provided are minimal to say the least. There is a wealth of information on the Apple website and on the internet generally, but for someone who has little or no computer experience, you may want to have someone guide you through the process to begin with.

Since purchase, I've loaded just over 2,200 tracks onto my iPod and it looks and sounds great! Although you can play a variety of audio formats, I converted tracks from my CDs as .MP3 files, at 128kbps. I was a bit wary of converting files at what I thought would be a low bit rate, as I normally prefer to convert at 192kbps, but to be honest, the sound quality exceeded my expectations and as a result I should be able to fit just over 4,000 tracks onto the iPod when it's full.

Navigating through the menus is a piece of cake. The click wheel is easy to use and it's a breeze to quickly find the track(s) that you're looking for. The screen is nice and clear and I've added artwork for all the songs (even one's it couldn't initially find, I added manually) so the coverflow feature works really well.

The built in FM radio works very well, even though it's not something I'm likely to use all that often. I've added some of my favourite stations and the ability to 'pause' live radio is a nice feature.

As I'll be using the iPod mostly for when I do my daily run, the built in pedometer is also a nice feature.

The built in video camera takes decent quality video clips with sound. Considering the small size and portability of the iPod, the end results are better than expected, but if you are wanting decent quality video footage of a holiday / family occasion, etc. then something a bit more substantial would serve you better.

There's a couple of games already built into the iPod, which are fun and should help keep you entertained for a few hours. They make good use of the accelerometer function which responds to the movement of the iPod.

I've not watched any films or TV shows on the iPod, but when I initially saw it in the shop, the demo footage looked crisp and clear.

Battery life seems to be pretty good. I tend to charge it up every couple of days regardless, but it certainly seems to have kept going after several hours of use without any issues.

The earphones provided with the iPod are surprisingly comfortable and fit snugly into my ears. The sound is also surprisingly rich and deep. On occasions, I've sat in bed with a regular set of headphones connected and the sound is even more pleasing.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with my iPod and would have no hesitation recommending it to others. It has given me an excuse to dig out a load of CDs, some of which I haven't listened to in years, and put them all into one place. I've rediscovered my love for music, which I thought I'd lost some time ago!
